Hi, my name is Christopher James. I'm the creator and Director of the MFA in Photography and Integrated Media program at Lesley University's College of Art and Design in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
From its inception in 2011, our two year, full residency degree program was created as a collaborative and flexible entity dedicated to studio practice, critical and professional studies, contemporary light based media and the fluid integration of traditional mediums and their related social and cultural influences. In short, our program is devoted to craft and concept, and we love making art with our imagination as well as with our hands. There is also a strong emphasis placed upon professional level writing, and, although you wouldn't realize it from this performance, presentation skills. We are a cohesive community of working artist faculty without attitude, world class visiting artist scholars who stay connected to the program and the candidates long after their semester appointments end, and our MFA candidates themselves, whom I love for their talent, intellect and tenacious generosity for one another. Our MFA program's evolution is motivated by the premise that photography is in the midst of great and significant change, utilizing new and unique platforms and increasingly incorporated into all forms of creative expression. There has never been a more exciting time to be making images, and our graduates are and will be a significant influence as the medium evolves. We welcome you to this adventure.
