Our students success is our number one priority, and we have the faculty to support, guide and challenge our students to have impactful careers and meaningful professional experiences within their industry. Being located in greater Boston is a huge benefit for our students and community; so much to explore and see to support your creative curiosity. During these challenging and scary times we live, I am more certain now than ever that careers in art and design are a necessity to move our global communities beyond this moment of the COVID-19 crisis. As creative thinkers and problem solvers, our degrees at LA + D will be at the forefront of generating innovative and humanitarian solutions to connect resources to real needs. Our mission at LA + D underscores the role that art and design plays within society, especially regarding equity, inclusion, and social justice. Our faculty and staff have worked tirelessly to quickly pivot our institution to online. I asked a student at Lesley to share his reflections and recent experience of the COVID-19 crisis and how LA + D and Lesley University has created a safe space to pursue the completion of degrees.
Hi there. My name is Joe Hamman. I'm an Illustration senior with a minor in Graphic Design, and I work as the work study Student Graphic Designer for the Dean's office. I just wanted to sort of give my perspective on the recent situation with COVID-19 and all the moves to online learning and just my appreciation for the staff and faculty who have made the transition so smooth, and were able to really be creative and imaginative with curriculums and resources for students and allow us to still get as much out of our college experience as we can in these really unprecedented times and how appreciative I am of that. I think the situation has offered a really interesting and creative opportunity for people to come together while they're apart and still maintain the community that we have at Lesley and also foster artists, who are able to be strong and creative and innovative in times of hardship. And also just the support from faculty members and our team has been incredible. We're definitely moving in the right direction, and the support and policies implemented have helped us to do that.
Thank you again for your time and your consideration. I'm happy to answer any questions and discuss your future as an artist and designer. I'm always accessible via video call for a chat or an email, portfolio review and thoughtful guidance. Be safe and be well and thank you again for your time.
